Solar Battery Buying Guide 2026 — What to Check Before You Buy
Before buying a solar battery, settle six things: chemistry (tubular vs lithium), usable capacity for your night-time load, inverter compatibility (voltage and, for lithium, BMS communication), warranty terms (years and cycle count, and who honours them), depth of discharge the battery is rated for, and where it will physically sit. Get those right and the brand matters far less.
Quick summary
- Chemistry: tubular for budget/backup; lithium (LiFePO4) for heavy daily cycling and long life.
- Size to your night-time kWh, not your panel kW.
- Check inverter voltage match, and BMS compatibility for lithium.
- Read the warranty: years AND cycles, and who services it in Pakistan.
- We spec and install — send your inverter and load: 0309-7179133.
1. Chemistry: tubular or lithium
Tubular lead-acid is cheaper upfront, proven, and easy to replace — right for backup-focused use and tighter budgets. Lithium (LiFePO4) costs much more but gives ~80–90% usable capacity, 8–15 year life, no maintenance and a fraction of the size — right for daily deep cycling and long ownership. Decide this first; it drives everything else.
2. Usable capacity for your load
Work out the kWh you use between sunset and sunrise (fans, lights, fridge, TV, chargers, maybe part-night AC). Then size the usable capacity to cover it with margin — remembering tubular gives you only ~50% of its rated Ah, lithium ~85%. Do not size to the panel array; the battery only covers what the sun is not covering.
3. Inverter compatibility
- Voltage must match — 12V, 24V or 48V. Most hybrid solar inverters are 48V, needing four lead-acid batteries per string.
- For lithium: the inverter must either communicate with the battery's BMS or at least support a lithium charge profile. Not all do. Confirm the exact inverter model against the battery before buying.
- Charge current: the inverter's charger should be able to charge the bank fully within the solar day.
4. Warranty terms — read them properly
- Is it stated in years, cycles, or both? A “10-year” lithium warranty often also caps total cycles or throughput — check which limit you will hit first.
- Is it full replacement or pro-rata (declining payout over time)?
- Who honours it in Pakistan, where, and what do they need from you (receipt, card, serial)? Get this in writing.
- Does the warranty require specific charge settings or temperature limits? Not meeting them can void it.
5. Depth of discharge (DoD) rating
The battery's rated DoD tells you how much you can safely use each cycle. Tubular is typically rated around 50% for good life; quality LiFePO4 is rated 80–90%. Using more than the rating every day shortens life and can affect the warranty. Size the bank around the rated DoD, not the full Ah.
6. Where it will sit
Heat is the biggest enemy of any battery. Plan for a ventilated, shaded location, off a bare concrete floor, away from the inverter's heat, and — for flooded tubular — somewhere you can safely check water and that tolerates a little acid vapour. Lithium can go on a wall but still should not bake against a hot exterior wall.
Questions to ask any dealer
- What is the manufacturing date of this exact unit?
- What DoD is it rated for, and what life at that DoD?
- Is my inverter model confirmed compatible — and for lithium, does it talk to the BMS?
- Warranty: how many years, how many cycles, full or pro-rata, and who services it locally?
- What charge and cut-off settings should the inverter use for this battery?
- Is old-battery exchange included, and how much?
We answer all of these
Send your inverter make and kW, its battery voltage, your panel size and your night-time load. We come back with a tubular option and a lithium option — both sized to the right usable capacity, with the compatibility confirmed and the warranty explained — and install and configure whichever you choose, across Lahore.

What should I check before buying a solar battery?
Six things: chemistry (tubular vs lithium), usable capacity for your night-time load, inverter compatibility (voltage and BMS for lithium), warranty terms (years and cycles, and who honours them), the rated depth of discharge, and where it will physically sit. Get these right and the brand matters far less.
How do I size a solar battery?
Work out the kWh you use between sunset and sunrise, then size the usable capacity to cover it with margin — remembering tubular gives ~50% of rated Ah and lithium ~85%. Size to your night usage, not your panel kW.
Will any lithium battery work with my solar inverter?
No. The inverter must communicate with the battery's BMS or at least support a lithium charge profile, and the voltage must match. Confirm your exact inverter model against the battery before buying.
What should I look for in a solar battery warranty?
Whether it is stated in years, cycles or both; whether it is full replacement or pro-rata; who honours it in Pakistan and what they need from you; and any charge-setting or temperature conditions that could void it. Get it in writing.
What is depth of discharge and why does it matter?
It is how much of the battery you can safely use each cycle. Tubular is rated around 50%, quality LiFePO4 around 80–90%. Using more than the rating every day shortens life and can affect the warranty, so size the bank around the rated DoD.
