What we need to know first

Before the rider comes, send us three things on WhatsApp: your inverter make and VA rating (for example 1000VA, 1.2kVA, 2kVA), how many batteries you run now and their type, and how many hours of backup you want. From that we work out the right Ah rating and number of batteries, and bring the correct cable lengths and lugs so the job is done in one visit.

Why the battery type matters more than the brand

A UPS asks a battery for a steady draw over hours, then a slow recharge — the opposite of a car battery’s job. A car-type battery on a UPS often lasts under a year; a tubular battery, built with thick plates for repeated cycling, lasts several years. For anything more than occasional short outages we fit tubular. A good deep-cycle battery is the minimum. We will tell you which makes sense for your usage rather than selling you the most expensive option.

The installation, step by step

1. We switch off the inverter and mains, then disconnect the old battery negative first, then positive.
2. The old battery is moved out and set aside for exchange.
3. The new battery (or bank) is placed on a ventilated surface, off a bare concrete floor, away from heat.
4. Terminals cleaned, correct-size lugs crimped, cables run for series or parallel wiring as your inverter needs.
5. Connections made positive first, then negative, and torqued tight — a loose UPS terminal arcs and can melt.
6. Inverter powered up; we set the bulk/absorption and float charge voltages for the new battery type.
7. Mains cut to test: we confirm the inverter switches over cleanly and measure the backup on your normal load.

Common mistakes we fix

• Wrong charge voltage left on the inverter from the last battery — boils the water off or undercharges.
• Undersized cable or loose lugs — causes voltage drop, heat and short battery life.
• Battery in a hot, boxed-in corner — we relocate it to somewhere ventilated and shaded.
• Mixing old and new batteries in one bank — the weak one drags the whole set down; we advise replacing the full set.

For a workplace where the backup cannot be down during hours, we schedule the swap for early morning, lunch or after closing. If you run a larger bank, tell us and we will bring enough matched batteries so the whole set is replaced together.

After installation

We hand over a warranty card and receipt, and give you the correct charge settings written down in case the inverter is ever reset. For the first full charge, leave the inverter on mains for several hours before relying on the backup. Check the water level monthly on a non-sealed battery, keep the area ventilated, and reduce the load during long outages so the bank is not deeply discharged every day.
